Odd Man Out
Whether it's because of our beliefs, background, personality, or season of life, all of us at some time or another find ourselves in a setting where we feel like the odd man out. There's a guy in the Bible named Daniel who certainly did. But instead of resigning himself to an undesirable, no-win situation, Daniel approached the situation as an opportunity to positively influence others and make a difference.
In Our Darkest Hour
During Daniel’s time in Babylon things seemed as dark as they had ever been for the nation of Israel and, as a result, the entire world as well. But it’s when things are at their darkest that light can shine it’s brightest. It was true in Daniel’s day… it’s still true for us today, too.
The Power of Perspective
The final thing Daniel had that allowed him to thrive in Babylon was wisdom. But it wasn’t simply because “he knew right from wrong.” Daniel’s wisdom provided something that enabled him to effectively navigate the road before him – no matter how difficult the circumstances were, or how uncomfortable the environment became.
The Forgotten Path
It's not something many of us think of when it comes to what we want to aspire to in life, but for Daniel it was absolutely essential for thriving in a situation where he was clearly the odd man out. Not to mention the fact that this characteristic gave him so much favor and influence with his captors that an entire nation was changed as a result.
Beyond Wishful Thinking
Do you have hope in life? Daniel did, and it’s one of the things that allowed him to thrive in an environment where he was the odd man out. The bible says we can have it too, and what’s even more cool is that the hope Daniel had is way better than what you and I tend to think of what it means to have hope today.
House Of Cards
Is it possible to thrive in an environment when you’re the “odd man out” and everything seems to be against you? Daniel did, and it was because he embraced the reality that God often chooses to accomplish His purposes through our trials rather than delivering us from our trials. But how did Daniel get to that point? The answer is simpler than you may think.
